World Press Freedom Day
The Day in View
UN World Press Freedom Day
Global Pattern Narrative · Truth · Power
Every home received the same nightly broadcast. The presenters spoke with calm certainty, explaining what had happened, why it mattered, and what the people should remember. The stories were accepted as the truth — repeated, trusted, unquestioned.
One evening, a technician reviewing routine footage noticed something small but undeniable. It didn't match the broadcast. He replayed it, slower this time. Yes, the official version had smoothed over what actually happened.
He said nothing at first. But the next night, as the familiar story filled the air again, he realised the system wasn't just reporting events — it was shaping them. And somewhere between what was shown and what was seen, the truth was still there... refusing to stay buried.
There is always a dominant story. The official version. The accepted narrative. The thing everyone repeats because it is safer that way. And then — there is the truth that refuses to stay buried.
In Scripture, prophets did not introduce new ideas. They exposed what power had edited out.
Every system protects its version of truth. Every prophet disrupts it. The woman in Luke 7 had been edited out of respectability long before she entered that room. Her presence there was itself an act of disruption.
Ask yourself: Where in my life am I accepting a narrative I have never questioned?
Scripture: Amos 5:24
The Demand
Ask yourself: Where in my life am I accepting a narrative that I have never questioned?
✙ Prayer for the Day ✙
God of truth, strip away what is convenient but false. Give me courage to see clearly — even when it costs me. Amen.
Hidden Thread · Genesis → Revelation
Second Temple prophets stood between empire and truth.
Truth is never neutral. It always threatens something.

From the Teacher
"I don't write these reflections from a place of having arrived. I write them from the road — still walking, still shedding."
Joe Asiba is the author of The Precious Gift, founder of The Mission House, and host of the podcast "Do you hear the call?"
